About The Author

Nicole Kelly

Nicole Kelly is a storyteller devoted to unveiling the beauty, complexity, and forgotten power of African civilizations. Through the lens of fantasy and historical fiction, she breathes life into stories erased by time, reimagining the past to inspire the future.

Dominion: Kingdom of Gold is the first book in her sweeping Dominion series, an epic saga blending history and fantasy to reclaim the untold stories of a people who lived and loved long before history chose to forget them.

For years, Nicole watched the world argue over history that should have never been up for debate. Entire chapters of African and African American legacy were twisted, minimized, or erased outright. As misinformation spread, and as certain leaders tried to rewrite what future generations are allowed to learn, she felt a growing urgency she could no longer ignore. Dominion began as her answer: a reclamation of narrative, a tribute to what was stolen, and an exploration of what the world might have looked like if freedom, justice, and equality had been chosen far earlier.

Writing this series became both an act of defiance and an act of love. Nicole set out to give readers an African Diaspora that breathed: regal, powerful, sophisticated, and overflowing with brilliance long before colonization. She wanted to create a world where her ancestors existed in full dimension; strategists, artists, warriors, scholars, not the flattened portrayals popular history often leaves behind. Through fantasy, she found space to rebuild what the world tried to dismantle.

Dominion may be her debut novel, but storytelling has always been Nicole’s compass. After nearly a decade of blogging, shaping essays, commentary, and cultural reflections, she channeled every part of her voice into this epic. The Dominion series is her response to erasure, her promise to the next generation, and her reminder that even in fiction, truth refuses to stay buried.

When not writing, Nicole enjoys traveling with her son and enjoying music outings with her life partner, J Dub Walker, Grammy Award winning music producer.  She can be found chasing the stars, exploring the earth for magical places or weaving new legends for future dreamers.

Readers share their journeys through Dominion.

The way ancestry and magic intertwine felt so alive, like I was walking alongside the characters through their struggles and triumphs.
